The first of three volunteer meetings was held on Sunday 20 October at 10:30 a.m. at the premises made available by the Salesian Institute in Via Marsala in Rome.
Over 20 people were present and after reading the letter from the president, who was absent due to force majeure, some new volunteers were introduced to whom our association and operational purposes were presented by our vice president.
The results of the projects carried out in the kindergartens of the villages of Zanzibar were presented below, where the volunteers spent their time in all the schools involving the children in a series of games prepared on site, with the final delivery to each child and the teachers of an educational and informative booklet prepared by all the volunteers and printed on site.
The aim was to make these children aware that there is not only Zanzibar but many places and many things illustrated and indicated in English and in their language, 1250 booklets that were rated excellent by the teachers and made all the children happy with the gift.
After a working breakfast, the volunteers committed to the next initiatives – Christmas gadgets and participation in Unicredit's Mio Dono – with suggestions and motivations for commitment to be carried out also with meetings and events not only in Rome but also in the Campania region.
There was also discussion about developing proposals
– to organize a demonstration in the nurseries during the volunteers’ trip in September, anticipating the end-of-year closing for time reasons, rewarding all the children but in particular those who will leave nursery school the following year to attend compulsory secondary school.
-to identify spaces where children (under supervision) can meet in the afternoon for games and leisure and small sporting activities
At around 5pm we left with the promise to meet again on November 16, 2019 at the Terminus Hotel in Naples for updates, new ideas, new proposals, new initiatives.
Below is the President's greeting letter
Dear volunteer friends,
Once again I am forced for work reasons, today I am leaving for Milan, to not be able to be present at this first meeting of the volunteers who old and new will compare to identify sustainable projects in favor of the initiatives in the villages of Jambiani for the coming year.
The children of those villages have always been in our hearts for twelve years, and even though we have done a lot for them we have not done much.
I say this because, and this is the message I want to leave you, it should not be the successes that tell us that everything is going well, but the search for an untamed enthusiasm that continues, always accompanied by the tenacity and research and commitment of each individual participant in all our associative activities.
So do not stop but move forward with the help of new forces, new ideas, new results, for new goals not the result of ego but achieved with collegiality and the commitment of all, always respecting a professed virtuous solidarity.
I am sure that this association, with the participation of all, will increasingly earn the respect of others because we have wanted to operate on these fundamentals since the beginning.
I convey to you with all my heart this message and this greeting and in wishing you good work I await you all at the next meeting for a hug and a handshake.
