Projects: Year 2020

Starting in 2020, every volunteer has had the opportunity to submit a project by filling out a project template.
The project template will include information regarding the timeline, the methods for carrying out the proposed activity, the volunteers involved, and other relevant details.
Projects can be submitted quarterly to the Gocce d’Amore board, ensuring a structured and periodic review of proposals.

2019 is now coming to an end. A year full of initiatives, collaborations and important projects successfully completed. Among all the “Elena D’Amanzo Project”, which started in March 2019 thanks to an agreement with the doctors of the NGO Zanzibar Outreach Program (ZOP), which allowed medical visits to be carried out on all the children in our kindergartens.

The growing number of people joining the project has led to the definition of new and more ambitious objectives for the year 2020:

  • Four-monthly medical visits for the 12 kindergartens;
  • 9 Mobile Camps that will allow free visits to the entire population of the villages where the nurseries are located.

ELENA D’AMANZO PROJECT – 1st MOBILE CLINIC CAMP
Dear friends,
outside the usual schedule of departures to Zanzibar, a trip was organized from 14 to 19 January 2020. The justified absence for serious family reasons of our dear friend Peppe and the justified absence of the volunteers, almost all busy for work reasons or university exams, reduced the possibility of being present at two important events to only two people.
– the specialist visit to the hospital required for approximately 180 children from various nurseries.
– the first “Mobile Clinic Camp” in the village of Uzi.
This gave full life to the “Elena Project” which will represent the founding part of our presence and commitment in 2020 in some villages of the island, where our association is present with the “ESSETRE OLIMPIC” and “LA NUOVA ARCA” both from Rome.
This project in fact included two paths:
the first – a four-monthly visit to the nurseries, to check the children's health, giving an important signal of self-care from an early age.
the second – a visit by a group of doctors to the villages where the kindergartens are located, to carry out various medical checks on adults free of charge.
The aim was to "bring the village closer to the nursery" and allow for healthcare that, for various reasons, is almost completely non-existent in Zanzibar. Not only that, but also to overcome the reluctance, fear and ignorance that are still present in the mentality of local inhabitants in believing in the benefits of medical science.
