In the first half of this year, there have been several meetings between representatives of Gocce d’Amore and the WHY board of directors, many have been discussions for a closer collaboration between the two associations and from these, many have been the ideas that have allowed the birth of new interesting projects. The visit to Zanzibar by two members of our board of directors and the president of Why has certainly been of considerable importance, not only for a detailed verification of what has been put in place but also to demonstrate to the interlocutors (teachers and village managers) how alive and meaningful the love and interest of Why and Gocce d’amore is so that none of the work undertaken way back in 2007 is lost.
An in-depth analysis of the various contents of the interventions that affected the projects will give a sense of what has been done and will be done especially for the benefit of the village communities and children:
– new tailoring school operating in part of the professional hub;
– new school with English courses for adults operating in part of the professional complex;
Participation in the construction of a new kindergarten school complex in the village of Kibidija for over 100 children; - project related to the search for volunteers to collaborate with the kindergarten teachers. - visit to all the kindergartens for: - a reconnaissance and check on the state of the structures, verifying and listing any small "restoration" works. A meeting with the teachers who were invited to participate in an initiative that could involve their children and the children of some Italian kindergartens and to deliver a certificate of gratitude from our associations for the work carried out in the kindergartens of Kibuteni, Uzi, Unguja, Charawe, Mtenda.
During this visit, Gocce d’Amore also took charge of the management of the Jumbi nursery, completely renovated by WHY.
During the year, Gocce d’Amore financed initiatives of a religious institute, the “Franciscan Sisters of Charity”, operating in Benin, where they take in abandoned girls in one of their homes.
Antonio, Peppe and Franco feel obliged to thank and compliment Mauro and Maddalena for the excellent work done in the field, thus allowing, with a meticulous and perfect organization, to serenely carry out that work which represented the essential reason for our trip.
TAILOR'S PROJECT
Part of the professional center has been used by Why for a sewing school. Some women attend the school learning a trade for a different life and help solidarity by providing clothes to the children of our kindergartens, they also prepare solidarity favors, bags and other things that will be tried to sell by inserting the products in the markets that will be organized or even during meetings with solidarity dinners between members and friends for fundraising.
ENGLISH SCHOOL FOR ADULTS
WHY, as part of a global education project, with its volunteers has also provided stable English courses twice a week for adults in the villages, this knowledge is useful and essential to promote and allow greater job opportunities especially in the resorts. The volunteers present on site Maddalena and Mauro confirm that both courses have aroused considerable interest and participation from the inhabitants of the villages.
NEW KINDERGARTEN IN KIBIDIJA
The project plans to provide the northernmost part of the village of Jambiani with a school structure capable of hosting the entire nursery school cycle (3-6 years) and will be developed in two phases, the first dedicated to the construction of the school and the second to the organization of a large training cycle dedicated to the over 40 teachers who already work in the nine nursery schools with the aim of qualifying the knowledge of all the teaching staff. Work on the new nursery school has already begun and it is expected that around 100/120 children will be able to enroll. Three classrooms will be set up, the teachers' room as well as a room for toilets and a kitchen area for preparing meals and snacks. A fence will make the outdoor area safe where the games for the children will be installed.
VISIT TO ALL KINDERGARTENS
A visit was made to all the kindergartens present Peppe, Antonio and Franco for Gocce d’amore Mauro (pres. Di Why), Patrizia, Maddalena and Mauro coordinators, mr. Omar (our itinerant principal) Beatrice and Fiamma the two volunteers already present in Jambiani. In two kindergartens Uzi and Ungugia we were accompanied by a journalist from a German television Carsten Jezewski who interviewed us by recording a report on our … jewels, this report (which he will give us) he promised us that he would insert it in one of his programs by broadcasting it. In each school sweets and biscuits were distributed to each child and teacher; in the kindergartens of Uzi, Unguja, Mtende, Kibuteni and Charawe a plaque was delivered with which we wanted to certify the teachers for the good work and the good results achieved in these seven years, various educational toys and boxes of colours offered by the Mazzarella friends were also delivered.
With the plaque, a cash prize was also issued, a certificate and the same was given to each teacher by name. In each kindergarten a new initiative was illustrated that should involve all the teachers and children who will be asked to make drawings that have as their theme "my world, aspects of daily life", these drawings will be sent to us and we will pass them around to some schools that will participate in choosing the best work. The aim is to bring the children of the Jambiani kindergartens closer to the children of our schools, a sort of ideal twinning involving some of our schools and parishes to make them aware of the diversity of life in such a distant area of the world.
