At the beginning of this year our concerns were represented by the resources that we had to recover for the regular carrying out of activities in the kindergartens, the sustenance of the children and teachers, teaching materials, etc.
The children hosted in the kindergartens in operation were in total over 500 (Mwendawima kindergarten 50—Kibuteni kindergarten 60—Unguja Ukuu kindergarten 100—Charawe kindergarten 65—Uzi kindergarten 50—Sogeani kindergarten 120—Mtenda kindergarten 70—)
A constantly growing number, therefore in the first half of the year we made it clear in our meetings with the communities that the current expenses could not be increased and that for other nurseries, even though we recognized the need, we had to wait, as sums had to be set aside for a gradual arrangement of temporary works, such as fencing and services that necessarily had to be arranged together with current maintenance works.
In April 2011 our association considered an offer of collaboration in the territory of Tanzania and precisely in a village 20 km from the city of MWANZA located on the shore of Lake Victoria. In Tanzania, despite there being many lay and religious volunteer groups that operate in the sector, there is a notable phenomenon related to the abandonment of minors even at a young age that over time and with their growth becomes a great social plague consisting of countless street children who enter a criminal circuit.
We were contacted by the HISANI association that operates a shelter in Lukobe, a village near Mwanza, hosting about 80 abandoned children entrusted to them by the Ministry. The person in charge of this association offered us to take over a project that involved the completion and renovation of an existing building that could accommodate other children from zero to six years old.
The work and the costs to be incurred will be divided into various phases: — verification and arrangement of the existing structures — arrangement of the internal furnishings — electrical system with solar panels — water supply — the finished work should include a male/female dormitory complete with bathrooms and showers — a small room used as an infirmary — a room used for school recreational activities — a refectory with a small storage room — arrangement of the external area and its fencing.
In July, the entire project and the relative estimated financial commitment were submitted to the members and in September we went on site to check the final details, draw up a contract with Hisani and agree on the dates, times and work to be done.
