Following the path of what was initiated—and accomplished—during the last social year with Upendo, and without interruption
in continuity with the commitment to give and support the people of Zanzibar, this year the Rotaract
The Rotaract Club Afragola-Frattamaggiore “Porte di Napoli” is launching the project “NAKUPENDA.”
THE PROJECT
Aimed at providing concrete help – in financial terms but also in terms of manpower – for
the construction of infrastructures dedicated to the education, inclusion and entertainment of children
Africans, the project aims at the structural recovery of a nursery school that currently hosts more than 80
children and in which 4 teachers teach.
The redevelopment of the structure was deemed necessary following an inspection carried out
the construction of infrastructures dedicated to the education, inclusion and entertainment of children
“The nursery is located in the middle of a beautiful but carelessly kept clearing, poorly fenced, without
an entrance and whose classrooms have a height of less than three metres which makes them not very bright and
without furnishings.
The redevelopment therefore consists in carrying out the following structural works:
- dismantling of the roof and the dilapidated covering.;
- new masonry to reduce the height of the structure, including partition walls;
- new wooden structure for roof and new covering with galvanized sheets primed with
color blue; - partial re-plastering where necessary and new internal and external plastering for
the new masonry; - new internal and external painting and woodwork (at the moment it is not foreseen
replacement with new doors and windows); - possible arrangement of the flooring;
- construction from scratch of an external “frontal” concrete slab to also protect the
masonry of the nursery to allow children to sit during meals; - existing arrangement of the room used as toilets and a small room to be used
in the kitchen.
To complete the redevelopment, the following works and purchases are to be considered: - external fence arrangement with purchase of galvanized wire mesh;
- construction of two small pillars and the purchase of an iron gate for the entrance;
- cleaning of the outside area to position and create a small play area, purchasing
uno scivolo ed una altalena; - just over 100 meters from the nursery area there is a well used by the village. It will be
necessary to provide a water diversion from the external tank to the inside
of the nursery for the kitchen and the existing bathrooms; - purchases of school furniture (it is estimated that 40 small chairs are needed – 20 desks for
2 workstations – three desks or tables for teachers and a wardrobe
